The short version
- I posted text posts and short videos on LinkedIn over the same 12 days.
- Text posts got 27 to 215 impressions. The same videos got 4 to 11.
- On LinkedIn, write first. Save video for YouTube and Instagram.
What I tested
From October 4 to 15, 2026 I posted every day on LinkedIn. Some posts were plain text. Others were the same short videos I posted on Instagram and YouTube. I had 386 followers at the time.
What won
| Post type | Reach per post |
|---|---|
| Text post | 27 to 215 impressions |
| Same short video | 4 to 11 impressions |
My best text post got about 20 times the impressions of my best video. LinkedIn is a reading app. People scroll it at work, often with the sound off.
How to write a text post that travels
- Open with one line that makes them stop. A number, a mistake or a result. LinkedIn shows about two lines before "see more."
- Tell one real story. A client problem, what you tried and what happened.
- Use short lines. One idea per line. White space makes it easy to read on a phone.
- End with one lesson. The thing a reader can use today.
- Skip the links in the post. Put a link in the first comment if you need one.
My posting rule now
Starting October 22, 2026, I post one text post every weekday. Each one comes from real work, like a before and after, a finding from an audit or a client number.
From my work
Over those 12 days my best text post got 215 impressions. The same short videos never got more than 11. That gap is why I write first on LinkedIn now.
